After returning to Kansas, Dorothy Gale has realized that the dreary fields of Kansas don’t compare to the vibrant landscapes of Oz. And although she’s happy to be reunited with Aunt Em, she misses her friends from the yellow brick road. But most of all, Dorothy misses the fame and the adventure. In Kansas she’s just another prairie girl, but in Oz she was a hero. So Dorothy is willing to do anything to get back, because there really is no place like Oz. But returning to the land she left comes at a price, and after Dorothy is through with it, Oz will never be the same.
I can say that this is the most perfect prequel I've read in my life. I've just finished it like couple of minutes ago and I'm so very excited to post this review and move on to Dorothy Must Die. Wow. I'm lost for words. Really. I can't imagine if this series would have another prequel other than this. Everything is beyond awesome. I love the writing on this book. Simply amazing. Danielle did a really good job. A wonderful way to introduced a new series. Plus it's a spin to The Wizard of Oz. What else could I ask for? The world building is so vivid, I could almost smell the corn that comes right of the husk already buttered. The famous yellow brick road and of course the stunning Emerald City is depicted graphically, I wish I was there too. The plot is intriguing enough for a reader to love it and to want more. I also love the fact that it is unpredictable and really thrilling. The turns of the events are not what you think they were really. A lot was left for the first book to unfold. I like that.
The POV is from Dorothy, the author did great for Dorothy to be hated or that's how I assumed she want readers to feel toward her. She's power thirsty and so ambitious. Not your same old Dorothy I may say. At first you would feel for her and the next second, you will realized what a conceited little brat she is. I hate her. The things she's done and even the things she thought about. I'm also torn about Ozma and Glinda. Can't really figure out who the good guys and the bad guys are. Not to mention that I'm a little annoyed at Uncle Henry and Aunt Em, but don't get me wrong. I love them and I really understand where they're coming from. It's just that elders tend to be annoying at times. Sigh. What happened to them at the end saddened me though. Oh! And, I really miss reading about Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Lion of course.
I really enjoyed reading this and I can't wait to get started with Dorothy Must Die. Recommending readers to read this prequel first. You won't regret it. I can't believe so much had happened on a 196 page book and I really love it.
Next on the series..
