Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die #1)
I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though—but even that's crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy.
They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.
I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I've been trained to fight.
And I have a mission.

I can't put into words how excited I am in reading this book as I've just finished its prequel. The prequel left so much to figure out and I love it. I love everything about There's No Place Like Oz. The series excites me more right after I've read this book's rundown. I'm pretty sure that this will be a magical and exciting read. I can't contain my happiness!
Read so many amazing reviews and honestly, I had a hard time deciding which one to include here. Like you wanted to have them all listed, but it won't be possible. I'm crazy like that. Ha! Ha!
Well, color me surprised--this was excellent! Such a great reimagining of a skewed Oz, with interesting characters, awesome and imaginative use of magic, lots of humor and gore, and genuine emotion. And it's just plain fun. --Wendy Darling
WOW. WOW. This reimagnined Oz is fantastic. One of the best "retellings" I've ever read. A great twist on a classic. The good guys are bad and the bad guys are good. AND I LOVE IT. Dorothy is nuts. She is a sociopath as are all her friends. I didn't think this book would be as disturbing, but dang, this was kind of disturbing. OH LORD. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this. The HYPE is so well deserved for this new trilogy. THAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH. I NEED THE SECOND BOOK SO BADLY. Okay, I'll have a more well thought out review coming soon! --Jillian
If you are someone who treasures your image of Dorothy as a sweet innocent stay far away from this series because she’s turned into a power hungry, magic thieving tyrant, and it’s going to take another girl from Kansas to set things right in Oz. I often love classic tale updates and this eye-popping twist on the familiar story absolutely thrilled me. -- Jaylia3
Brimming with phenomenal world-building and irresistible characters that you'll fall in love with instantly, Dorothy Must Die is one of the most captivating, addictive books I've read in a very long time. One of the most outstanding debuts I've read that's sure to never die down in hype. -- Brad
I'm feeling that I'm being biased already so I've searched for not so good reviews too:
INSTA ALL THE THINGS! I mean, really. There can be no confusion here, it's all Nox this, and Nox that, and it's so painfully forced that I never once felt anything beyond annoyance (and I know she mentions their connection at some point, but I didn't write it down and I'm too lazy to find it right now, but it's there). There was a nice little side character thrown in solely for the purpose of making Amy jealous too which was just awesome. Just, nothing worked because it all tried so effing hard, and since the story seems to be a typical YA love drama with a side of plot I'm not longer interested.--Brandi
This book must have been written as the author's imagination was going 120 miles an hour, because it was like she was eating crystal meth-laced cookies, pot-brownies, drinking large glasses of 'shroom tea, all while soaking in a tub full of acid and bath salts. Toooooooo much going on, sooo many sarcasms, aghhhhhh oooooo weeeeeeee... The details. The DETAILS ARE HURTING MY MIND. -- Shanah Davis
Okay. Let's stop it right there. Yeah. I'm unfair. Ha! Ha! I'm still fangirling and super excited after I've read those awful reviews about the book. I'm sorry, but I really think the book is worth the hype. Book review to follow. Happy reading to me!
