To be honest, I like this one better than AngelFall. Aside from the fact that it started where it carted off, it answered most of the confusion I had from the first book, but I must admit not everything. Yeah. Most of them. I love the fact that the series had progressed to something less puzzling and I didn't even have to recall Angelfall since this book summed it up.
The POV is still on Penryn's, but there were glimpses of Raffe's emotions, thoughts and what happened to him when he was separated from Penryn through Pooky Bear. I know you want to ask who Pooky Bear is, but for the sake of No-Spoilery as much as possible, you would need to read it. Teehee. Believe me that was sidesplitting. Wink. Learning about Raffe's POV, though those were merely just peeks, in a way made me understand a lot of things and that was great. I'm a little sad that Penryn and Raffe were only reunited in the last couple of chapters, but definitely proud of my girl Penryn since she made it that far without anybody saving her. Almost nobody, I may say. The romantic angle between them is not forced. I think it is just enough for the readers to be enthralled and left to be wanting more, which is significant. Her mother is still on her own creepy world, disturbingly creepy. As a matter of fact because of her, I'm so convinced that only nutters survived almost anything. Ha! Ha! Penryn's little sister, Paige, shattered my heart in a million pieces and yet I am so horror-struck by her. Especially when Penryn was able to watched the video when she was abducted and what she did to Beliel. I also finally understands why she ended up like that and what the Angels are up to. Dee and Dum are still awesome. They have injected the humor out of nowhere. A breath of fresh air amidst all the chaos.
The world-building got better. The apocalyptic scene is pretty much presented here. Not just the abandoned houses and burned streets. Like people are getting desperate to survive and really planning strategies to strike back. I like it far better than the first book. The Angels are still weirdos. I'm still not digging why they look that way. I'm clueless if they are that way for distinctiveness and I'm also wondering why the Aerie is depicted like they are a mob or something. Complete with gangster angels and escort girls. Foolish. Not to mention, the dirty way of them handling their politics. So human.
The plot is still in a fast pace. Everything is starting to make sense and falling into place. Unlike the first book which vaguely discussed a lot of key points from the story. It becomes more bolder and morbid. I don't want to go into detail as to why it was like that. It's definitely for the readers to experience for their own. For all the things going on, I can say that this is a restless read. There were a lot of emotions being poured in each pages. I'm not sure if that's a good thing. There are readers who would want to have a breather once in a while. Anyway, the twist that ends the book is unforeseen. It's a blow for me really. I did not anticipate that everything will go against what I'm expecting it to be which was great. Truly thrilling and breathtaking.
To wrap it up, yeah, I did like this better. Hopefully, the next book for this series will outshine this. Definitely excited how the story will go since it is amazingly unpredictable. The third book doesn't have a title yet so I'm really looking forward to it.
