I may have not put so much faith on this book, but hey I like it. Remember when I was so uncertain to read it because of a nearly unanimous discouraging reviews about the book? Yes. The concept and plot is pretty worn out. You know, the usual. Girl meets unusual boy. Romance forbidden. You and me against the world. Stereotype, but then again I was drawn to it. I agree that it's not really a hard core SciFi book that you would expect it is or maybe not yet, and that's where disappointments pour through. Cmon. You don't expect a book to be SciFi just by the mere mention of an Alien. You're not stupid like that. Are you?
Somehow, there's something interesting about how it is written. Those kinds of books that won't let you feel that this is another book you could read when there's nothing else to read. Like you have no choice, but to read it. Just for the sake of having something to pass your time with. It's a feel good book. Light, humorous and brilliant in fact though it started in a slow pace.
The book is told from the POV of lead characters, Cara and Aelyx. I adore them both. Cara being the smart and witty girl and Aelyx being the alien you would want to share your house with or life for that matter. Forever. Cara is such a sweet and funny girl which contrasts Aelyx for being reserved and mysterious. I love how their love story is not instantaneous. How gradually they've found themselves enthralled by each other. I feel so giddy just thinking about it. Their moments together are so exciting. Their first kiss is so incredible. It was written in a way that you'd feel caught up in the moment too. Magical indeed.
There is Eric, Cara's ex-boyfriend who's a douchebag. I hate him. Tori, Cara's ex bestfriend who took off just when Cara needed her and hurt her so much. I don't like her either. The lamest excuse of "It just happened". I really hate it. At some point, I perfectly understand why they did the things they did, but I wouldn't do that if I were in their shoes 'cause it's really not justifiable. I'm perfect like that. Ha! ha! Though they'd made it up with her in the end, still, I don't think what they've done is forgivable. Marcus and Brandi would be Team Assholes and I loathe them. You would just need to read the book so you would know where I am coming from. Then, there's Syrine and Eron. Poor Eron. Sigh. I can't blame Syrine for all the things she'd said and done. A love one that's lost will be enough reason for it.
Learning about the L'eihr World is quite interesting. It compensated with some near to dull parts of the book. I really want to know more about it. Perhaps, it would be a lot better if Melissa had given readers at least glimpses of the planet. Well, the action part is kind of superficial. I'm expecting some real kick ass danger and battle, but there isn't much. I'm really hoping Melissa could have given the book some really nice adventure for readers to be more thrilled about it. Possibly, on book two, I guess. The complications of the story are fairly written well nonetheless.
Aside from those points, I like the book overall. I can't wait for Invaded to be published, which is book two of this series since Alienated finished on an exciting note. I'm really thinking that Invaded would revolve around the L'eihr planet this time so I'm excited.
If you want a less complicated, cute and a humorous book to read. I highly recommend this book. 😃
