I'm not pretty sure how to begin with this as I'm so overwhelmed about the idea of having a book review about City of Heavenly Fire. That familiar mixed emotions again. Sure, I'm so familiar with it, but still, heartbreaking. Heartbreaking that this would be the last book. Though I know there would be another series that Clare is doing and it's like an extension of this; I can't help to be woeful. On the other hand, I'm so happy that I've got to read the last installment of this series. Finally. As in, at last. I'm being bipolar again, I guess. Yeah. I know. Can't help it.
I love how the book is written. It is not written as I expected for it is more fascinating. It feels like that you've been taken away to a dimension that's so real. So real I forgot that it's from a book. I love the Shadowhunter world. Every little details of it; that I want to have runes tattooed on me too. This series will always be an obsession to me. A favorite. I adore how Clare have written everything because the series is beyond amazing. Yeah, I have my own share of disappointments from the previous books, but this book have rubbed them out.
Confusion was never an issue though the book was written in every character's POV. I love it. You would know who's POV you're reading. You would just know. That helped me understand each of their emotions and personalities more. I felt their emotions. Love the characters. Jace and Clary grown in so many ways. I love it that they were brought out as a team against Sebastian. Not some broken-in-their-own-way couple still. The romance between them? Just. Perfect. Not overly done. Simon and Isabelle? Love them. Especially the drunken Simon part and the Dungeons and Dragons strategy. Ha! Ha! Isabelle is just so broken, I nearly cried for her and yet stayed as the bad ass girl I love. Magnus and Alec were so awesome. Awe inspiring. I love them both. Sebastian is still on his creeper personality. His obsession with Clary is the freakiest of them all. At some part, I understand why he's doing that creeper thing, but he's a total looney! I hate him still. Then, there's Luke, Jocelyn, Maia, Jordan and the rest of them. Simply remarkable.
Some critics said that the book is too reliant with the other books from Clare's collection and it's confusing readers, especially if they're not familiar with the prequels and they also confirmed that Clare was dwelling mostly in introducing new characters for her new series. Like some sort of early promotion. Well, I would agree in some point with the latter, but I really think it was well written. There are some characters that are taken from The Infernal Devices and I love how Clare tied it up with City of Heavenly Fire. Also, some insights from The Bane Chronicles --Which I haven't read yet. Loser.-- that are told as support story, I think. And yes, there are new characters that were introduced to have an overview of her new series, The Dark Artifices, but it would make you feel thrilled to read more. I love them all.
There were a lot of grief on this book. A lot of things to be sad about. So many people have died. So many hearts broken. The book even made me teary-eyed in some pages because my heart was crushed. Unexpectedly, you'll feel fury. You'll feel thrilled you're about to cry. Then, wonderful things poured in. You'll feel so elated, you wanted to cry again, now with happy tears. A whirlwind kind of thing. That intense. It's a roller coaster ride for that matter, really. There is so much in this book. Incredible. The plot is packed with heartaches, redemption, romance, action and so much adventure.
City of Heavenly Fire is a bulk for 725 pages. Long, long story, but you'll definitely enjoy each pages and it will keep you wanting more. The long wait for the book is so worth it. I love Cassandra Clare. So love her. Fangirling here. Her writing is so captivating in every page and I swear I'll read all her books; written, not written yet and in the process of being written. Grin. If you haven't read the series, you might want to start now. You wouldn't regret it. Swear. 😃
Ave Atque Vale The Mortal Instruments.
